En attendant réécoute de ce concert inoui :

Zappa avec un octet de rêve (les Underwood, les Fowler, Duke, Ponty, Humphrey) pour un concert à dominante instrumentale d'une densité thématique hallucinante...jamais entendu répertoire plus complexe et exigeant dans le cadre d'une formation "rock" au sens large.

Plus qu'indispensable, obligatoire.

A l'exception des lyriques Black Napkins et Friendly Little Finger, on retrouve le reste mieux interprété en concert ailleurs. Dispensable.

Broadway The Hard Way (88)


Un Zappa politique dont le propos satirique prend le pas sur la musique.Il reste cela dit de bons moments (Any Kind of Pain, le standard Stolen Moments, Outside Now, Hot Plate Heaven at the Green Hotel).

Just Another Band From L.A. (72)


Zappa est peut être le musicien le plus inégal qui soit, oscillant au gré de sa complaisance entre le génie et la bêtise crasse.

Just Another Band From L.A. verse volontiers du côté obscur de la force entre un Billy The Mountain soporifique (25 minutes quand même ), un Dog Breath exsangue, un Call Any Vegetable passable et un Magdalena pour le moins dérangeant (le texte est à vomir )...

Sheik Yerbouti (79)


2 solos de guitare d'anthologie (Rat Tomago,Yo Mama), un petit bijou d'écriture et d'arrangement (Wild Love), un excellent morceau rock (City of Tiny Lights) et hélas une litanie de morceaux qui se veulent parodiques et caustiques, mais sont en réalité bien puérils et indigents (Dancin Fool, Broken Hearts For Assholes, I'm So Cute...)

Tiens je n'en ai à peu près aucun souvenir, hormis bien sûr le tube Valley Girl Je l'avais rangé dans la catégorie "dispensables et inégaux des années 80" mais je vais le réécouter.

Un de ceux que j'aime le moins, tant pour les compos que pour la couleur instrumentale générale... Il faut dire que j'avais découvert la discographie de Zappa dans l'ordre chronologique, et que le voisinage d'Apostrophe / One Size Fits All d'un côté et Sleep Dirt / Studio Tan de l'autre est un peu cruel pour ce Zoot Allures.

Comment le savoir et comment poster?

J’ai posté La Bamboche au moins 20 fois sur d’autres forums?

Si l'artiste est vivant ou mort il y a moins de 70 ans, tu peux être sûr qu'il n'est pas libre de droits.
Evidemment pas de problème si c'est posté par l'artiste lui-même ou une maison de disques.

De toute façon on n'est pas là pour s'échanger des liens Youtube mais pour discuter.
Tu peux citer des références, chacun saura trouver ensuite ce qui l'intéresse.

Excellent live, gorgé de feeling et de blues (Beefheart oblige).
Et c'est le galop d'essai de Terry Bozzio.  

Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar (81)


Un triple album regroupant quelques uns de plus beaux solos de Zappa.
Le coffret, très intelligemment découpé en 3 courts CD, immortalise également Vinnie Colaiuta au sommet de son art de la polyrythmie instantanée.

Un recueil époustouflant.

Hot Rats (69)


Si les titres aux long cours impressionnent (Willie the Pimp et son solo épique, Son of Mr Green Genes, The Gumbo Variations), ce sont les miniatures qui portent au pinacle les talents de compositeur et d'arrangeur de Zappa (Peaches In Regalia, Little Umbrellas, It Must Be A Camel).

Un chef d'oeuvre.

Dans la continuité jazzy et cuivrée d'Hot Rats.Le morceau-titre est un tour de force d'écriture et d'arrangement.

Un peu méconnu, ce disque d'archives de la période 67-68 qui mêle rock de chambre (déjà!) et jazz-rock (déjà!) est une des grandes réussites de Zappa.

Les 20 minutes de The Adventures of Greggery Peccary comptent parmi ce que Zappa à écrit de plus abouti.
Cette pièce qui intègre Stravinski, Varèse, le jazz-rock et la musique de dessin animé est a écouter absolument.

Revised Music for Guitar & Low-Budget Orchestra impose une sorte d'idéal du rock de chambre : à la fois complexe et mélodique.

Lemme Take you to the Beach est la "stupid song" de rigueur. Faut faire avec...

RDNZL est une merveille de prog/jazz-rock.

Un album indispensable.

Et surtout surtout enfin le Beatles Medley  en enregistrement officiel ô joie   FZ y découpe en rondelles le télévangéliste Jimmy Swaggart   “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” devient “Louisiana Hooker with Herpes” (!!) : Jimmy s’était fait pincer dans un motel en Louisiane avec une professionnelle, FZ ne pouvait pas laisser passer ça

Rien que pour le Beatles Medley je suis preneur

A noter que Dweezil a demandé à ne pas figurer sur cet album. Il avait alors 18 ans, son paternel l’a présenté au public et il a joué un solo. Mais Dweezil a estimé sans doute que ça ne méritait pas de figurer sur un enregistrement officiel.

Au fait… A la fin de l’année (octobre ?) une édition “spécial 40 ans” de 200 Motels va sortir

Les 4 premiers CD qui couvrent l'année bénie 74 (avec une formation élargie a 10 musiciens puis réduite à 6) sont tout simplement indispensables : Zappa y atteint des sommets de créativité et de groove.      

Les 2 CD suivants abordent la peu documentée formation de 76 avec la chanteuse soul Bianca.Si on peut se délecter d'une version rallongée de Black Napkins, le répertoire n'est pas des plus passionnants si on s'intéresse plus au Zappa des constructions instrumentales ambitieuses qu'au Zappa chansonnier. De surcroît on note pas mal de doublons.

Mais rien que pour les 4 premiers CD il faut écouter ce coffret.

A comprehensive 4-CD + Blu-ray Audio box set celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mothers Of Invention/Hot Rats/Grand Wazoo experience from 1972. During the aftermath of being pushed off the stage at the Rainbow Theatre in London, England; FZ found himself recuperating for months in his home in Laurel Canyon. Although he was confined to a wheelchair, his work ethic could not be tamed. During this time, he managed, among other things, to assemble an ensemble that quenched his thirst and desire to work with a large “Electric Orchestra.”
Ultimately, a 20-piece group was  contracted, along with recording sessions and an 8-city tour. Shortly thereafter, a scaled down 10-piece configuration, now known as the “Petit Wazoo” toured for almost two months. After all was said and done, FZ finished the experiment with two albums in the can, Waka/Jawaka & The Grand Wazoo, plus two tours and an archive of show masters in his Vault. It was a monumental feat for a guy with a cast on his leg and a conductor’s baton in his hand.
The Waka/Wazoo box set features a complete historical run-down of the entire project, featuring alternate takes of almost every composition recorded during the album sessions, along with Vault mix session outtakes and oddities. Also included is the full final show of the 10-piece tour, recorded at the famous Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on December 15, 1972. The Blu-ray Audio disc features both albums with brand-new, first-time-ever Atmos and 5.1 mixes from the original multi-tracks and the 96kHz 24-bit high-resolution stereo remasters.
Finally, during the album recording sessions at Paramount Studios, FZ worked with George Duke on some of Duke’s solo material. These demos were produced by Zappa, who also played guitar. Although George would go on to re-record the compositions for his own albums, the versions with FZ have never been officially issued until now.
